Hamilton's "Commonwealth" and "Void" sagas (my intro to Hamilton was "Pandora's Star" which got me into reading SO again).

I'm gonna have to reread your review before posting more thoughts, but I would like to point out that Hamilton deals with the issues of the economic feasibility of interstellar flight in his novel "Fallen Dragon," in which such travel is soooo expensive it is only worthwhile when used to rape, pillage and plunder worlds every 10 to 20 years, stealing as much of the wealth the world has generated before moving on to the next world to be raided.
Death to the Regressives of the GOP and the TeaParty. No mercy for Conservatives. Burn them all at the stake for the hateful satanists they are.
