So I try to put books in the same series together. Then I start looking at the size of the books.. big books on the same shelf and so on. Colours are important too, black books look best in a shelf, so they get to be visible.
Does content have any meaning in your organisation (apart from series)?
Well... Yes. I sort of did the general assumption that the question was how I organize my sff books, as the rest is mostly a mess. But it is a mess in a different bookshelf.
