It wasn't just about him being the best at everything again; the scene contained lots of different elements contained throughout the book in a single place; his battles with Ambrose, overcoming his recurring need for money (Count Threpe gives him seven talents at the end), showcasing his seemingly effortless talent in everything and ending with meeting Denna, protaganista extraordinaire.

The thing I liked the most, though, was how he recovered the song after Ambrose broke one of the lute strings; not because it proved anything about Kvothe, but because it was a flashback to a time that he had repressed, surviving in the wild after his parents had died. I thought that was quite good.
