Were there lots of little things that bugged you? Or was that just me? Gher Send a noteboard - 17/11/2009 08:57:26 PM
Because there was for me. And I mean little things. But some of them would take me out of the story so quickly.

One of my biggest peeves, was Kvothe's first meeting with Ambrose. It's on page 268 in my book. I still can't figure out how he learned Ambrose's name. Ambrose was referred to as a young gentleman, Kvothe's name isn't in the register book at the Archives, and then it says, "Ambrose put down his pen..." I don't know why that bugged me so much, but I reread the previous paragraphs over and over, looking for his name. It wasn't so much that I was confused, it was easy enough to figure out that the well-dressed young gentleman sitting behind the counter was named Ambrose, but it felt like I'd skipped a paragraph or something. Like when you're watching a DVD and it is scratched, and you skip a scene. You know enough to continue the story and not be lost, but you feel like you missed something.

And other little things. Wrong words for the context, things like that. Kvothe was talking about the musicians of Imre and the University students looking down on each other, but they were hypocritical because they both used the other side's products and ideas. But instead of hypocritical, the word used was hypercritical.

I don't know, it just felt a tad unpolished. I still really enjoyed the book, but little things bugged me.
