If I have to pinpoint Lamentation's single major weakness, it would be this.
While I appreciate that some of the major climactic events of this story are not physical battles and duels, they did seem to pass by really quick, both in terms of amount of time spent on it, as well as how these events affect the characters...
Barring, of course, the "climax" we begin with, the destruction of Windwir.
Was that what Scholes was going for? That the effect of the Desolation of Windwir was so great that other events did not impact the characters that much?
Either way, this made me entirely dissatisfied when the book ended. I wanted more, and not in the positive sense it is usually used in.
