I've always been fascinated by some aspects of magic with consequence. I am working on a short story where certain people gain access to a form of magic when they get extremely ill. The sicker the person the more powerful their potential magic. The more those people use their power, the more their illness defeats their bodies.
Would really like to read it.
All this reminds me of a Norwegian children's book. A young boy gets a pair of pants, and discovers that everytime he puts his hands in his pocket, he pulls out a sum of money. However, delightfully keeping with the laws of physics, everytime he does, money disappears from somewhere else.
Charming, Social-Democratic morality tale

Indeed, I marry them in their unlawful bed, with an open heart I affirm the true right of any man and woman to their dark slobbering nights which are rare enough, and against which too many laws conspire.

I really don't care as long as it is not horribly inconsistent.
