I tried reading it three times or so, once when I was travelling and didn't have anything else to read. It just doesn't read well, at least not in my opinion. It's too much effort for a sci-fi book and not deep enough for serious literature (plus, it's all contrived, which makes it hard to accept it as serious literature). I finally ended up throwing out my copy of the book, something I almost NEVER do with books. However, I was that disgusted with it. I only liked the movie because of David Lynch (well, and Sting's Feyd Rautha).

I also found the miniseries unwatchable (once again, I tried to give it a chance by thinking, "Okay, so I hated reading it, but maybe I'll like watching it" ).
