The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova *spoilers* I'm sure Aeneas Send a noteboard - 03/10/2009 01:11:48 AM
So who has read this book? I listened to this on audio book because I had too much car travel oer the last week. I wanted to like this, but it was very...interesting.

It had lots of interesting things going for it. I was not a fan of the 4 deep flashbacks though. I don't know anyone who has ever written as detailed a letter as any of those letters. Perhaps this is a better read than a listen, or maybe everyting I read is just as weird sounding aloud. Some of the similes and metaphors were quite...interesting. If I could remember better I would give an example. The plot was decent and the mystery was convoluted but played out decently. The characters were, well, characters. Starting with the daughter was a bit much. I think the story would have been better if just the professor and the student were the subjects.

There was also alot of build up to Dracula and then he went out kind of bush league (execpt when they left the cliffhanger open at the end for all the upcoming sequels).

What did anyone else think of this? I saw lots of reviews comparing it to The DaVinci Code but better. Would anyone agree with that? Disagree?

I really just wanted to post on the new website to prove that it is still here

I liked the idea but the execution left a lot to be desired. - 03/10/2009 02:28:43 AM 435 Views
