Tricky, mostly because I don't remember everything I read last year...

Among the ones I remember reading or talking about, it's easy enough to get to five, as I really haven't read all that many:
- Henry James, Portrait of a Lady
- Almudena Grandes, El Corazon Helado (The Frozen Heart)
- Christopher Clark, Sleepwalkers (history book on the outbreak of WW1)
- Choderlos de Laclos, Les Liaisons Dangereuses
- Gustave Flaubert, Salammbo

The trilogy as a whole is a lot of fun, but not sure if the third book quite fulfilled the promise of the first book. I don't generally like it much when the third book of a trilogy suddenly pulls new villains or new threats out of thin air and acts as if everything that came before was just warming up. In fact, I read the book half a year or so ago, and can remember really very little of the climax of the final book - less than I can remember of the previous books that I read years ago.
What are your top 5 reads of the year?
