I actually had to read it 3 times to even get your point. The "he said" or "she mentioned" portion of dialogue normally doesn't even register with me. I am too focused on the conversation itself to care much (that is what is critical to the story, not the dialogue "format".

If you don't notice basic writing style mistakes, then obviously you don't care that much about the writing. And that's fine, you're undoubtedly in the majority when it comes to society at large. But since the fix is so easy, and since you don't notice either way, why not do it to make fans like me a little happier?
