I purchased L.E. Modesitt Jr's book The Elysium Commission a few weeks ago but I have been having trouble getting started with it. I have liked Modesitt's scifi books in the past but this one seems so filled with so many made up words that he doesn't explain that I find I am distracted from the story. And to be honest so far the story doesn't seem that interesting anyways.
I have only managed to get to about page 30 and I am trying to decide if it is worth it to simply power through the tough start or just toss write it off as a loss and move on to the next one.

I think you should just write the book off as a loss right now.
If you're only 30 pages in, and you're already forcing yourself to keep turning the pages, you're not doing yourself any favors by pressing on.
Move on to the next book, and pick this one up later. Maybe it'll be better the next time around.
Should I finish this book?

Having never read the novel, I can't give you any specific advice.
