I don't often actually get around to writing reviews of the books I read but I've had this half-finished sitting around for ages and Larry has inspired me to post it up even if it's not shiny It's a Young Adult book which might put some of you off but I think it's absolutely worth a read.

Some general blurb:

Oct. 11th, 1943-A British spy plane crashes in Nazi-occupied France. Its pilot and passenger are best friends. One of the girls has a chance at survival. The other has lost the game before it's barely begun.

When "Verity" is arrested by the Gestapo, she's sure she doesn't stand a chance. As a secret agent captured in enemy territory, she's living a spy's worst nightmare. Her Nazi interrogators give her a simple choice: reveal her mission or face a grisly execution.

As she intricately weaves her confession, Verity uncovers her past, how she became friends with the pilot Maddie, and why she left Maddie in the wrecked fuselage of their plane. On each new scrap of paper, Verity battles for her life, confronting her views on courage, failure and her desperate hope to make it home. But will trading her secrets be enough to save her from the enemy?

I'm not sure how accurate it is on the war and stuff around it but it seems plausible enough that it didn't pull me out of the story.

The book is in two parts, the first from Verity's point of view, the second from Maddie's. It's a brilliant book partly because of the friendship that is shown and developed throughout between the two main characters - I don't often read about friendships in books that feel so real. The two perspectives are also a really nice way of expanding on the friendship, as well as revealing details about the plot that are not all they seem at first.

It's definitely a book I'll read again because I enjoyed it so much, but also knowing what happens at the end will give new appreciation of everything that happens and it's fun seeing all the bits you missed before. I've been leaving it a while though as it is pretty sad in places and I'm a sop.
