I've done neither, actually. The concept of uniformed heroes and the typical adventures they have, hasn't appealed to me since about 1992, so I ignored the movie. And I don't read comic books, in general, for the same reason. Still, I understand how disappointing it can be when something you adore is screwed up.

Watchmen's entire premise is based around deconstructing those various concepts that you (and I) are tired of. It's also about 30-40% prose. Might want to check it out if you see it at the library or something.
