What are your 2014 reading goals? Larry Send a noteboard - 02/01/2014 08:36:48 AM

While I'm not going to make a resolution to post more frequently here, as posting even copies of my reviews might seem like spamming when the board activity is so slow, I did think it might be interesting to see what people are aiming to read (and perhaps review) this year.

I'm not setting a strict book number target this year, except that I want to read at least 50 books each in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian. I had thought about adding German to the mix, but I want to wait until 2015 to work on that (that being the earliest year that I can see taking my long-delayed vacation to Central Europe) and I am close to achieving reading fluency in both French and Italian. A few of these titles I might review, especially the Spanish-language Premio Alfaguara winners, which alone would mean 21 new reviews.

Also want to read more books by women writers, preferably in non-fiction this year, just to broaden general awareness of certain themes, issues, etc.

A fun thing I'm planning for the summer is doing a "World Cup" series of posts on the literatures/authors of the 32 countries in the World Cup. When I did it in 2010 on my blog, there were some fun responses.

Oh, and I want to re-read and review the works of one of my favorite Southern writers, Thomas Wolfe, just because...

What about you? What general and/or specific reading (or reviewing) goals do you have for 2014?
