Using a desiccant is probably better than using heat. I have read that microwaves don't work, too. Finally, both of the nicer books are leather bound, so I assume the oven will ruin the covers.
On the other hand, silica packets are cheap, as are Ziploc bags, though I have a freezer with no ice on the inside so I think it dries it as well.
