Isn't "Richard and Kahlan are separated" a plot that happens in like, 3/4 of the books?

Nikki isn't around, is she? I really disliked that character. In retrospect she reads like a fanfic Mary Sue- uber-powerful, uber-beautiful, dark and sexy and myserious and she UNDERSTANDS RICHARD like NO ONE ELSE.
