In light of this, I won't even bother. There's no way I'll catch the subtle points so I won't even try.

It's really not the easiest book to love if you're not the type who enjoys archaic literature and don't mind being interrupted by footnotes.

If you ever change your mind I bet the usual collections of Classics (Penguin etc.) have decent editions. Accurate translation counts, but in the case of works like this the editor, how good a scholar he is and how well he can make his presentation and notes interesting to a non-specialized audience, is just as important.
