Lord Foul's Bane does get better but some people simply do not like Donaldson's style. He is was of my favorite writers but most people either seem to really like him or hate him.
He's on my 'try again' list, but I've tried him again a couple of times and he's never struck a chord. I'm sure I'll give him a go again eventually and I have had things on that list I've tried several times with rejection then did get into - Wheel of Time is actually one such, I got into WoT sometime in 2000 IIRC and was well sucked into it by 2001 at the latest, but the first time I checked out a WoT book from the library was in 93 or 94, because I remember tFoH as hardcover in the new books section catching my eye enough to find out it was part of a series and checking out EotW that day. After that I tried the book on at least three more occasions before finally being sucked in. I'm not optimistic about Donaldson though, I never disliked WoT whereas I remember feelings o genuine distaste for Donaldson's style.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

So you're looking for series that are not yet on your list, yes? I'm a little confused.

Fair point, could be useful to point to whenever people ask the same question of what to read next.

I think it was a not so snarky way of saying Hitchhiker's Guide started as a radio show. *NM*

Clarke wrote both, so is the book really anything more than a novelization of the screenplay? *NM*
