Hmm. I thought Snow Crash was more or less a failed book. But why not the Diamond Age? I do personally love the Cryptonomicon book, though, but it is probably my war interest... 

Cryptonomicon isn't exactly the book I'd use to introduce someone to Stephenson, plus I liked the humor in Snow Crash just a bit more.
