Lord of Light- has some similarities to WOT in terms of themes

So:
What was the best book that you read in 2012 (or series)?
Ooh, I remembered a book I read! Lord of Light by Zelzany. Excellent book.
Unless obvious, what is it about, briefly? Science Fiction bordering on fantasy with a theming on (mostly) Hindu religion, a hugely confusing chronology. Basically, in a new world intentionally mirroring Hindu myths, the Buddah fights heaven as the backstory is filled in.
What makes it so great? The view of deities and magic is unusual, taking the Third Clarkian Law as it's basis. The story telling is excellent, the reinvention of a rich culture, the integration into a SciFi setting and the explanations for the "magic" are refreshing and the way the story flips from past to future is wonderful albeit confusing as it isn't very obviously heralded.
Thanks! You're welcome

After AMOL, I'm looking for something new, so let me ask - What was the best book you read in 2012?

Yes. The one I own is The Zimmermann Telegram, which is also great.

It's a great book, though Chronicles of Amber would seem closer to WoT

For me it's a draw between Patrick Rothfuss: "The wise Man's Fear" and

Check out the work by David Weber or L E Modesitt Jr if you have't already; both are excellent. *NM*
