There is usually no photo, and there aren't a lot of copies. Even when there are copies, they appear to be first printing, which doesn't tell me about what I ordered. I'll find out tomorrow, I guess (Processo di sdoganamento in corso, consegna prevista: mercoledì 26 dic. 2012).
But if I know the publisher/edition, then it usually helps quite a bit. For Spanish-language books, seeing "tapa dura" as opposed to "rustica" or "tapa blanda" clues me in as to what type of binding I'm buying.
