What bloody world do I jump in to next? I've been advised against Malazan and I don't like 'series' which are in the same world but completely different sets of characters each time, I just don't get attached fast enough.

I's been bugging me for about 6 months since I finished Dance with Dragons so I've just been rereading WoT to get up to speed for aMoL but I'm finished that now as well. Should finish the first Dark book but I probably wont.

(p.s, if anyone knows a series worth committing to I'd be thoroughly grateful, one big story, interesting characters, detailed world/backstory/history etc.)

I happen to have liked the Malazan series more than the others you list, so all I'd say is just try it for yourself and see if it works. It is a challenging series in many regards, but one in which the latter novels fill in details of the first ones in a way that makes more sense to me than if it had been a "traditional" setting the stage at the beginning rather than something that's almost in media res at the outset.

Or you could just read Brian Evenson, Jeff VanderMeer, Catherynne Valente, Helen Oyeyemi, and a few others to discover something a bit different than just epic fantasies ;)
