Wouldn't surprise me if the Habsburg Empire would have reverted to what it had been just after 1848, with a south slavic state created to balance out Hungary's domineering position in the dual monarchy. A federalized empire, which I think is what Karl I/IV proposed during the war's latter stages as a means of stopping the fighting in the east, could have worked for at least some time.
