It's not like it's a literary achievement in any way, shape or form. As such, I highly support people who just watch the TV show which, honestly, seems superior to the books.
I for one am never buying another book by Martin as long as the TV show covers the action for that book. Given his glacial pace of writing, the TV show should be wrapping up the last season by the time he gets around to the penultimate (maybe) book.
Save your precious reading time for something worth reading from a stylistic and aesthetic point of view (Hanna Montana, for example).
