Due to the fact that it is actually a serial novel published and originally in six parts rather than one complete piece. King was still writing the novel when he had already published the first pieces. As such the flow of the book is a little odd but if I recall nothing too off-putting.
It's been a good while since I read it, but I don't recall it being overly violent and think it is well worth the read.
