I went online to read up on the movie at 2:00AM when it was over and was shocked

that it had somewhat negative reviews mostly related to it's length and pacing. I had been so impressed by nearly everything about it and was fascinated with all the intricate details and symbolism that it never occurred to me to be bored. I thought that was sad that not everyone "got" it. Many of the reviews were dissappointed with it because it wasn't another "Shawshank Redemption". (Now I want to see that to see how it could be so much better. I will believe that when I see it.)
It isn't that often that I see a movie that leaves me thinking about it and remembering and appreciating it for hours afterwards. I am more of a book person.
I am happy to hear that the director was faithful to the original.

I watched the movie "The Green Mile" last night on TV. I am thinking about reading the book.
