I finally got around to reading these this year and overall they are delightful. You can really see where a lot of modern authors have found inspiration.
My favourite of the quartet was probably the first one, though. It's a good version of The Name of the Wind.
*********May be slightly spoilerish from here on, though I tried to avoid it.*********
For those who have read them: what did you think of the fourth (Tehanu)? I thought it wasn't in keeping with the others. All of a sudden there was a very grim premise (Therru's history) and it felt a lot angrier, lacking in hope despite Lebannen. Is this a product of the gap between the books and where Fantasy had gone in the intervening years?
Are the other two books worth reading?

Re: Not that they didn't have a plot, yeah, but that the focus is the theme and the characters. *NM*
