Definitely try- give yourself permission to stop/quit. Vivien Send a noteboard - 11/04/2012 08:47:07 PM
If I had to commit to finish it before starting a book (or anything!) I'd read a lot less books overall (or try new things). This applies to a bunch of other things too. If I'm taking a class at the gym and I'm just not feeling it, I reserve the right to walk out at any time. And I totally do! If I had to commit to exercising for an hour or whatever I'd most likely wind up exercising *less*, not more. I'm only really comfortable going to a party if I know that I can leave at any time. I've let a hobby practically take over my life and then just stop. Maybe someday I'll return to it, but I don't know. I'm such a quitter.

When you put it like that, it makes perfect sense. I feel a bit too British at times so put up with things I'm not having such a good time with just because it'd somehow feel it wasn't the done thing to stop. All in my head, I'm sure. Maybe I'll be better at stopping reading books I'm not enjoying from now on, who knows.

Try to fight the british in you if you can, then. I recently saw an episode of the ukrainian bachelor where the bachelor is english. The (ukrainian) women were interviewed by the sister and best friend and one of the women later described them as "very, very english".
