I never really finished (or maybe technically "started" as I never got past page 20) Ulysses, but as an English professor once said (no clue who - why waste a good anecdotal story on finding facts) "no one has read Ulysses, including English professors".
I started in two books by Modessitt Jr and both times I threw the book across the room out of window out of sheer hate of his writing. (His? Hers?)
When they first came out, the Earth's Children books by Jean M Auel were huge here in the Netherlands. I read book 1 three times (and loved the movie), book 2 twice, book 3 once, got halfway through book 4 before putting it away disgusted, read about 100 pages of book 5 and never bothered with book 6.
I'm sure there are others, but can't think of them right now.
I like picturing you hurling books across the room in disgust! Maybe that's what I should have done with my book...it was more that it made me feel dirty and in need of a shower, and a little bit depressed. I passed it on to another book club member and will mooch it after she's done with it I think - get rid of the thing!

Have you ever stopped reading a book because you really don't like it?

Reading anything Victorian or older in Dutch translation tends to be a bad idea, agreed.
