Of course, I'm also disappointed that Martin's "other cultures" all sort of roll into one melange of "exotic decadence". Sure, there are a few "distinguishing" features of different cultures, but the names all still sort of sound the same, and the cultures all feel like they're poorly distinguished.

World building is important in fantasy, and problems with world building tear down the ability of the reader to suspend his disbelief.
