It's been quite a long time since I read this.

Excepting my recent re-read of TSatF, this is the only Faulkner I've read, and that was back in high school. I did get a really strong impression from the book, though I was a bit of a dunce back then, and your review has certainly reminded me why I appreciated it.
I'm not sure why it's taken so long to revisit an author who intrigued me as much as he did, but having finally got back to TSatF I'm now fairly determined to read more of his work. I would really like to reread this one, actually. I just remember it being one of the just darkest funny things I'd ever read.

Well, that sounds a lot more appealing than the impression of Faulkner I had so far.

This is a better point of entry for Faulkner than most of his other novels, if I recall

Yes. I have no idea why so many high school teachers insist on THE SOUND AND THE FURY.

High School should consist of Greek, Latin, and Philosophy enforced with corporal punishment.
