Who is your favourite sci-fi writer? Why?

Timothy Zahn. With his background in physics and engineering, he is able to include plenty of hard science. His short stories and stand-alone novels are excellent. His Quadrail series has improved dramatically in the later installments, and even for the first one, when I didn't like the characters and didn't yet care about the story, I read it anyway just because I like his writing. His Star Wars novels are among the best stories in that universe, and Grand Admiral Thrawn is my favorite literary villain of all time.

Who is your favourite fantasy writer? Why?

This one is harder, but I'm going to go with Brandon Sanderson. He has yet to write a book that I didn't like. His magic systems are innovative and unique. He's also very prolific.

Who is your favourite author overall? Why?

Anonymous. That author has built up a tremendous body of work, and seems to be at ease with almost any genre, style, or format.
