There was a whole lot of torture, and if you take that out, there really wasn't much left. Then there's his relationship with his slave. I don't see it as a good example of dystopian fiction- the society wasn't explored that much. What we did learn of it was a mess and there was little explanation or reason. Just for starters, it seems incredibly wasteful to have doctors work as torturers /torturers attend medical school.

I thought that the few peeks of the society that could set up such a system- and yes, waste medical graduates on such horrors- was enough. Maybe it's my overactive imagination? As I believe I told you, I'm most terrified of being wrongly accused of something. In a society with such strict rules, getting their information from people being tortured... I'd live in total paranoia.
