We've got a few official plans for the year ahead. It's not going to be as full-on as last year, you might be relieved to know, but we hope you'll join in our "official" activities.
1. Challenges
The 50 Book Challenge runs, as ever. Or you can make it more books if you think you'll achieve that.
We'll have a couple of ad hoc Challenges throughout the year. The way they'll work is we'll give you a month's advance warning and then the Challenge will run in the following month. The first Challenge will be announced next month. There won't be anything time-consuming; we hope they'll fit in with your regular reading.
As well as these challenges, I've got some books I'd like to give away. These are things I bought and didn't enjoy, or doubles from our shelves, or ARCs that have since been published (those I have are YA books). So to "earn" a book, we encourage you to post a full review of something you read during the year. For inspiration, you can read through reviews in the Review section of the Library (in the sidebar). When you post a review, I'll NB you with a list of the books I have and if one appeals then I'll post it to you. This will be worldwide.
2. Book Clubs
Although these have traditionally been difficult to promote, we're hoping that just running two Book Clubs this year will encourage participation. There'll be one sci-fi book and one fantasy. You're more than welcome to give us suggestions, but Jake, Paul and I will make the decision. So NB your suggestions to the three of us and we'll discuss and let you know the choices well ahead of time.
The first book club will be in April, the second in September.
3. Interviews
Depending on how our busy lives go, we hope to be able to do more interviews with authors throughout the year. We'll try to make them Board interviews to get you all involved (like we did with Jim Butcher and Gail Carriger) so keep your eyes out for the announcements of our interviewees as they arise. And think up some good questions.
If there's anyone you'd particularly like us to interview let us know and we'll see what we can do. We make absolutely no promises.
