Luckily, Mencken can be read at around 8-20 pages a day, skipping several days

My goal is 6 books in Italian and at least 5 in each of French and German. I still haven't decided on the second part of my challenge, which will be either
(a) the WWI/WWII and inter-war years reading
OR
(b) perfecting ancient Egyptian and exhaustively reading through all unread books on Egypt in my library (that would almost certainly bleed into 2013)
Luckily, I have a few days yet to decide.

If you do a), that would interest me even more, since that was the area I concentrated on for my MA. I would be interested in your thoughts on b) as well, but I have little desire to learn that language anytime soon - it would take half a lifetime just to get to a third of the languages you read!

I may read a Faulkner novel next year, and more if I like it.

I'd be shocked if 20 views, 2 responses were passed on most of them

There'll also be translated fiction discussions (or rather I discuss certain works in the original)

I will keep you posted. I may read Mencken in 2012 at your suggestion as well.
