Having been ejected from sf/f by my changing tastes, I am having a lovely time with police procedurals, as they are called.

Having done the English language series, I moved into translations. The books of Jo Nesbo led me to Haakon Nesser and his wonderful Van Veeteren series. A lack of material forced me to top up at my now favourite bookshop in Sydney which houses both a fine mainstream selection but is also the home of Galaxy, the Sydney sf/f store.

I was attracted by the the title of Villar's book, the second in the series. Set around Vigo, in Galicia, the northwestern-est province of Spain, it is a delightful read with a fully-formed "hero" with a liking, Camilleri-style, for seafood.

The pace is good, and the solution is not produced by the hero going for a think and coming up with a "Eureka!" moment. He keeps on getting it wrong, until finally, he gets it right.
