Hey Rafonauts
A few questions for you on your reading habits.
1 - Approximately how many books do you read in the average month?
Depending on what time of the year but an average is probably 3-4 books (higher when I'm on vacation and such and less when I'm busy with work).
2 - Of those books, what ratio would be Sci-fi/Fantasy compared with Not SFF? (Ie SFF:NotSFF)
Based on this year's reading so far: 40books:3books. And last year was: 31books:8books. So a heavy majority of the books are SFF.
3 - (with credit to Tom) Which of these do you read:
Read frequently
Fantasy
Sci-fi
Newspapers
Read now and then or quite often
Historical Fiction
Classics
Crime/Mystery
Other fiction stuff (like Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro etc)
Non-fiction
Seldom read
Thrillers
Short stories (SFF)
Magazines
Never read
Graphic Novels
Manga
Plays
Poetry
4 - Do you read every day?
Try to, but mostly it's more like several days a week (reading long periods of several hours-a whole day).
5 - Do you find it easy to discuss the books you read?
No, I'm terrible at explaining/summarising a book or why I liked it. I always feel that I lack the right expression of words to describe why and what I like with the books I read. And it hasn't anything to do with English being my second language; it's as hard to do in Swedish. I'm just a person that often has a hard time expressing my thoughts on books in a deeper or more detailed way. This is partly due to me likening the total sum of the books and having a hard time pinpointing exactly what it is that made the book good/wonderful, it's just good, not good or wonderful.
5a - If not, do you know what might make it easier?
No. I think practice may help but it takes me ages to write a review of a book.
6 - Do you buy books as soon as they are published?
No. Most of the books I buy are several years old. I try to buy paperbacks as much as possible since it's cheaper than hardcovers.
7 - What do you like to see in reviews?
Why the author liked the book, a (very) short summery of the book. It's also nice to now the strengths and weaknesses with the book. But mostly a nice review by a person whose book taste is known to me is enough and doesn't have to be written in any particular way.
Thanks.
Your welcome.
