Try Viktor Pelevin's Sacred Book of the Werewolf. Tom Send a noteboard - 06/10/2011 01:41:02 AM
It's very off-beat, it has a pop-intellectualism to it, it's a fast read and it's fun. There is perhaps a tiny element of sadness to it, but not really a very strong one. The Russian language version came with a CD with music on it that was related to the book - I'm not sure if the English-language version has that, but it's fun.

Plus, for some reason it's the only Pelevin book that women consistently seem to like.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

– Procopius
