I don't think you can compare fantasy series and real literature

It's like the difference between eating a cubic meter of cotton candy as opposed to a cubic meter of beef. People who read mystery novels or romance series can say the same thing, but the daunting nature of reading a long work of literature isn't just that it's long. It's that it's long and you actually have to concentrate.
