I thought they had some intriguing ideas but overall they bored me tremendously. The present-tense style I remember from at least one of them was somewhat off-putting, and I found it very tedious to read countless pages of detail about everyday life and working at whatever profession the main character took up, carpentry or blacksmithing or what have you. It was probably quite realistic, but I wasn't interested, and the fantasy parts seemed pretty standard, so I never bothered reading any further.

The second one was good (Towers of Suset, IIRC). I read until about book 6-7. They were okay.
