No. I think the assumption that the Catholics would be on the defensive is erroneous, as well.

It's difficult for any book on theology to not contain a confessional stance, and to a certain extent Ratzinger does attack flaws (as he sees them) in other confessions, but he avoids all-out polemics. However, he would never be on the defensive, only on the offensive.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
