I can only think of the one, that the husband she is writing to was killed by Kevin.
Celia's death hit me harder than Franklin's somehow, and not only because Franklin's could be seen coming from further away.
The other "twist" I'm talking about is in the final page or two, when Kevin suddenly seems to display repentance, and Eva admits to herself that she loves Kevin in a way, and will even voluntarily take him into her home again when he comes out of prison.
The thing is that those thoughts of Eva's are in a way understandable - even if many will still find them shocking - since she's had two years to adjust to Thursday. But the reader gets it right on the heels of the murder of Franklin and Celia, and that makes it very hard to digest. Like I said, it's powerful, but that manipulation of the timeline to put those two things in immediate succession feels a little cheap.
I did like the book, in an "oh, god, I don't ever want to read this again" kind of way.
Yes, it isn't exactly a cheery read.
