I've read most of his novels, plus A CHRISTMAS CAROL, with the exception of not yet reading EDWIN DROOD.

So you have read Dombey and Our Mutual Friend (going by the impression I have of his lesser known works)?

My personal favorite, at the moment at least, is BLEAK HOUSE.


It is quite lovely. If you can learn to live with Esther.

Dickens was a master story teller, but his work was a bit uneven, which I attest mostly to him being a installation writer, being paid by the word. A lot of the stories that were published as a regular installment in a periodical just sometimes stretch and wander a bit. Still, there are large segments of his works that are simply brilliant examples of story, setting, and character.
