Well, Astrid Lindgren should be read by all kids everywhere, I think. And Moomin as well, but those are perhaps for a slightly younger audience.

They're probably there. He has several books which we'd deem too "young" for kids of 11. Some of the kids are just less mature, or are behind in their reading skills.

When he discussed Scandinavian books with mom a while ago (she's a a retired teacher, but she still helps kids with their reading, and also reads stories to groups of various ages twice a month), I was under the impression he was speaking of the contemporary offering in translation, though.

Pretty good, but I'd like to see a bit more hard sci-fi in there. - 24/05/2011 01:48:57 PM 732 Views

I think most "reading" children will have read those books before age 11. - 24/05/2011 02:22:49 PM 688 Views

I couldn't "make" my 9-year-old read anything he didn't want to - 27/05/2011 03:15:46 PM 781 Views
