Where is that quote from? Sir Tybalt Send a noteboard - 13/05/2011 02:37:27 PM
“Destiny is a lie. Destiny is justification for atrocity. It is the means by which murderers armour themselves against reprimand. It is a word intended to stand in place of ethics, denying all moral context...”

Since I'm in the middle of reading this book (number five in the series), you could say that this is my last fantasy series for now. The quote reminded me of a bit that stuck with me from the very first fantasy series I ever read:

“'Ours, my boy, is a high and lonely destiny...'
'All it means,' [Digory] said to himself, 'Is that he thinks he can do anything he likes to get anything he wants.'"

Kind of neat that my first and last (latest) fantasy series feature the exact same moral principle.

And then, what was the first fantasy series you read?

My guess is Narnia by C.S. Lewis. But that's the only Digory I can think of off the top of my head. (Aside from Cedric Digory in Harry Potter!)
