Twitter is a nice tool at times, I'll admit Larry Send a noteboard - 13/05/2011 12:10:46 AM
1. Try to name up to five spec fic novels released in 2010-2011.

The Dervish House by Ian ... McDiarmid?

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms ~ NK Jemisin

Who Fears (?) Death ~ Nnedi O (I can't remember how to spell her surname.)

The one by Paolo Bagucigalpa - is he Spring-Heeled Jack? They're all starting to mix about in my head now. :P

I believe that was Mark Hodden. I haven't read the book, but I did receive a review copy last year.

Zoo City ~ Lauren Beukes

2. What about up to five spec fic anthologies?

Real: Unreal 3 was last year, right?

Yes.

3. Can you identify without looking it up at least two of the Hugo nominees for Best Novel?

NK Jemisin and Nnedi O were both nominated, I think. Was the Dervish House as well? And Zoo City by Lauren Beukes (did that win, or did it win the Nebula? She won something big recently...)

She won I believe the Clarke Award, which is a British award.

4. What about the Nebula Award?

Jemisin again. Mira Grant's Feed, I think. Um.

5. Do you feel that you are relatively well-informed on spec fic novels, especially the newer ones?

Much more than I used to be because of Twitter.

6. Which authors (or genre categories) would you like to know more about?

I really want to read Zoo City, and Nnedi's books look really interesting. I've also enjoyed what little Steampunk I've read (mostly Carriger) so I want to read more of that.

7. Which spec fic-oriented blogs can you name and/or have visited?

Again, these are because of Twitter:

- The Ranting Dragon

- Floor to Ceiling Books

- A Dribble of Ink

I'm almost hurt you forgot about a certain blog that once was associated with the old OF section :P Then again, it's not exactly spec fic-oriented these days.

How much do you know about recent speculative fiction (or, if you prefer, SF/F/H/Weird)? - 12/05/2011 11:48:47 PM 743 Views
