If you have watched and are comfortable with their standards, then you should be fine with this. It's not any worse than Boardwalk Empire, for example - perhaps easier to stomach, because it is still fantasy. They take some stylistic liberties with the violence and gore. It also helps when you have read the books and know what is coming; you can always cover your eyes if you like.
It may not bother me at all. I have seen some R-rated movies that left me bemused as to what they were rated R for. It didn't seem that bad. I have seen some PG-13 movies that left me upset. It is hard to tell what is going to set me off. Thanks for your review though. You would probably understand my distaste for violence as well as anyone so your opinion helps.
