Generally if it is a more serious read then I will try to wade through the introduction. I've never had the issue of seeing spoilers, but maybe that's because I mostly just read the introductions for things where I already knew the ending, like The Odyssey, etc. My only issue with them is that they're so boring and dull, that it requires as much effort to read the introduction as it does to read the rest of the book.
