The longer the series drug on the less and less interested I was. The first book was easily my favorite, and I really liked everything through The Wastelands. After that...Wizard and Glass, and Wolves of the Calla...were a drag, and I've not even started Song of Susannah yet. I just find I don't really care anymore.
I have to agree that Wolves was fairly lackluster--I think at least half the book could have been trimmed--but W&G might have been my favorite of the series.
But....I think my issue with the book is that it almost could have been removed completely and nobody would have been the wiser. Why write it and break up the continuity so bad with a flashback book instead of actually advancing the story? I guess it was better than nothing at that point though, since he'd struggled for a looooong time to figure out how to move on from Wastelands.

The problem is that the first book is wildly different from the others in style
