Oh. Totally bad place to start. Rebekah Send a noteboard - 16/03/2011 09:45:40 PM
Have you read anything by Eddings?

Read 50 pages of the Redemption of Althaus, before stopping due to the sheer blandness of it.

It's pretty poor.

If yes, how long ago did you (first) read it/them?

About three months ago.

- Do you reread?

Not a chance.

- What's your favourite of his series?

Never read a series.

- Favourite character?

Pass.

- Are the Elenium and Tamuli set in a version of Earth? Or is it a version of the world of the Belgariad and Mallorean?

Dunno.

If no, why not? :P

I've just reread The Elenium (bought the trilogy from my charity bookshop a few weeks ago) and I loved it. It's certainly my favourite of his series. I am torn about whether I want to reread The Tamuli, though. I want character closure, but it's not very good.

I get the feeling that if I'd read it aged 10 or so, I'd of liked it. Isn't Eddings one of those writers one is meant to read when they first read fantasy before progressing to the good stuff?

Yes. It's a bit unfair to judge him from a modern perspective, since he's an early Epic Fantasy writer. And The Elenium, at least, might stand up under a first read from an adult. But yes, he's mostly a starting point, I think. I first read his books when I was 10.

No. Never cared to read it, since I rarely read epic fantasies until 13-14 years ago. *NM* - 16/03/2011 09:33:52 PM 646 Views
